Love cinnamon buns? Then you’re in the right city. Tallinn might just surprise you with how good its buns are — from soft and gooey to crisp and chewy, every cafe does them differently.
In this post, I’m sharing my favorite places to get the best cinnamon (and cardamom) buns in Tallinn — not just pastries in general, but spots that truly specialize in these comforting swirls of dough.
You’ll find everything here: rich and fluffy buns, leaner Scandinavian-style twists, and bold, buttery versions with just the right amount of crunch. I break them down one by one and tell you exactly what to expect in each cafe.

Where to Find the Best Cinnamon Buns in Tallinn
1. Kohvituba Panaderia
- Address: Kaarli pst 7

In this cafe (which is located a bit outside Tallinn Old Town), you’ll find incredibly thin and soft cinnamon buns (like nowhere else), soaked in cinnamon with caramel syrup all around.
They melt in your mouth even before you start chewing. What I love about cinnamon rolls here is two things: first, even though they’re small, they’re quite filling, and second, they’re unlike any other cinnamon buns (not just in Tallinn, but beyond).
The design and location are also cool – it’s like visiting a home from the 50s-60s (it reminded me of stepping into a similar apartment in Riga on one of my trips). If you sit by the window, you’ll also get a pleasant view of the park, especially when visiting Tallinn in the fall, because there is a chance to enjoy the beautiful foliage.
Another thing which is nice is that this cafe offers discounts for yesterday’s buns. So, you can buy a cinnamon bun from the previous day at a much lower price, without sacrificing much in flavor.
2. Patarein Pagar Studio
- Address: Suur-Patarei tn 20-1

It is one of my favorite cafes in the Kalamaja neighborhood for flaky pastries, quietly tucked away on a side street.
I usually like to come here for coffee with ham&cheese Danish or bacon puff pastry, but their Danish cinnamon buns are incredibly good too – soft, flaky, and made from light, buttery dough that’s rolled with a generous layer of cinnamon and sugar.
Baked to golden perfection, these buns come out warm and fragrant, with just the right balance of sweetness and spice to pair with coffee. Their cardamom buns are as delicious, especially when fresh from the oven. I’ve also seen the occasional Portuguese pastel de nata on display.
Overall, this cafe studio is a nice mix of a patisserie and cozy neighborhood spot (perfect for slowing down with a book), whether you grab pastries to go or enjoy them at the table. It’s also a calm place to sit with your laptop and get some work done.
3. Passiflora Lilled & Kohv
- Address: Uus-Volta tn 9-1-31

If you’ve come to Tallinn for a few days, I recommend exploring different neighborhoods and districts of the city and venturing out of the Old Town to the Volta district (near Kalamaja).
There, amid modern apartment complexes, you’ll find a small, cozy flower cafe with a selection of delicious buns and really well-made coffee.
What I love about the cinnamon rolls here is their variety. Sometimes they offer the traditional ones soaked in cinnamon from every angle, while other times, you’ll find buns drizzled with vanilla cream, which complements the cinnamon flavor and creates a really interesting taste.
Since this cafe was originally a flower shop (which has recently expanded to a flower cafe), you can treat yourself to a unique bouquet of flowers while enjoying your bun with tea or coffee.
4. Mathilda on the Hill
- Address: Toom-Kooli tn 21

Another gem is a cafe that opened just last year, and I immediately fell in love with it as the best place in Tallinn to try traditional Swedish cinnamon buns.
The secret here lies in its owner, a native Swede who both runs the place, bakes buns with other types of pastries (the selection is small but very good) and personally caters to her guests. Her family once owned a bakery in Sweden where for decades they baked cinnamon buns (and other delicious treats).
Carrying on that family legacy with cherished old recipes, she now bakes her buns in Tallinn Old Town by the Bishop’s Garden in a house that looks like it was taken from the Brothers Grimm fairytales.
Cinnamon buns are amazing and melt in the mouth. They’re large, soft, perfectly spiced with cinnamon, and just the right amount of sweetness, and prices are delightfully affordable (I’d say if you are visiting Tallinn on a budget, this is a good place to go).
Psst: There is also insanely good hot chocolate here as well as Irish coffee. And it is such a lovely place where to hide with a cup of hot drink in Tallinn’s Upper Old Town in December or during the rain.
5. Fika Cafe
- Address: Telliskivi tn 60a-1 and second location at Tehnika tn 117

Fika has several locations around Tallinn – one is a full cafe in Telleskivi, another is more of a bakery in Uus Maailm neighborhood with a small seating area, and there is also another location (more like pick-up & go in Solaris Mall).
I’ve been to all of them, and honestly, they’re all great (because buns are baked in one place), so just pick the one that’s most convenient for you.
Their cinnamon buns remind me of Copenhagen (because I had very similar ones there), just at a lower price, and also of Christmas markets in Tallinn, where you can find them on sale. These buns have a generous layer of cinnamon (plus some other spice I can’t quite identify) and are topped with crunchy sugar crystals.
The texture is moderately soft and chewy in the middle, yet somehow baked to be crispy on the outside. Super tasty, and flavor is completely different from all the other buns on my list.

6. ROST Bakery
- Address: Rotermanni tn 14

This is not my favorite bakery, but I simply have to include it on my list since many people love it for many things, including their cinnamon buns. ROST makes their buns big, rich, and loaded with taste.
The dough is perfectly balanced (not too heavy, not too airy) and has just the right amount of chewiness with a slightly crisp edge. Cinnamon filling here is quite light (for me it is never enough in their buns) but has a deep, almost caramelized taste, which they don’t hold back on.
I’ve seen a lot of people on social media praise the atmosphere here — it’s definitely popular. But personally, I find it a bit too cramped, with people almost on top of each other pretty much all the time. That said, everything else feels thoughtfully done, from the ingredients to the presentation.
If you grab a seat, you’ll get to enjoy the smell of fresh bread and pastries straight from the oven while scoring your bun with coffee, which only makes the experience better. There are other types of pastries here too (I also tried a croissant and bun with spinach, and they were good as well).
7. Pulla Bakery
- Address: Voorimehe 7, in Old Town

Pulla Bakery is another spot in Tallinn where you can get seriously good cinnamon buns, and they are located just in Old Town close to many hotels, which is very convenient and quick to walk to if you are spending only 1 day in Tallinn.
Their cinnamon buns are all about soft, fluffy dough with a rich, buttery taste and a bold cinnamon kick. The texture suggests they’re made with yeast, giving them that rise and lightness. Among all the buns on this list, Pulla’s are the thickest, slightly dense, yet still pillowy inside… baked to a golden finish with just a touch of caramelization that deepens the flavor.
They also have decent pizzas here and a couple of other types of pastries, but cinnamon buns are what keep me coming back.
In summer or on any other day when the weather is nice, it is so pleasant to sit outside on the street where the cafe is located. So, if you’re looking for a classic yet perfectly made cinnamon bun in Tallinn, Pulla Bakery is another excellent choice!
8. Kringel
- Address: Planeedi tn 5

Kringel is my new favorite in the Uus Maailm neighborhood where cinnamon buns aren’t just about the taste, they are also about how they are made.
The entire bun here is crafted from a single, thin strip of dough, almost like a delicate rope, carefully twisted and folded in a way that forms a beautiful bun. This way of making them gives a nice rise and softness — you really taste the cinnamon.
What’s more, these buns are entirely plant-based (as well as cappuccinos or latte drinks), making them a hit among vegans (but I, as a non-vegan loved it too).
NOTE: You’ll find here other types of pastries and an extensive menu with various foods, so it’s a nice cafe where also have a full meal!
Okay, so here’s my list for now. Like other articles about Estonia, I’ll keep expanding it as I try more cinnamon buns around the city. It takes some time, as I only recommend cafes and restaurants based on my own experience after visiting and trying them myself.
Do you like to explore different neighborhoods in cities you visit outside the center? Then you’ll love a non-touristy side of Tallinn outside the old center and spending a day in Nomme, the greenest and very unique neighborhood among all!
